GTI fail MOT on emissions
« on: 19 April 2012, 20:14 »
Hi guys

Right put my golf through its MOT today and it failed on emissions!! In particular carbon monoxide reading was 7.000 and the lambda reading was way out both on idle and fast! It's been serviced prior to MOT! So I'm thinking it's the Lambda sensors!!! I've got no fault codes coming up!!

It's a 2.0 GTI on a V reg!!

Has anyone had a similar problem??

Could it be the CAT as well although I don't think it is!!!

change the sensor get an emissions test done again you should have a free retest. if its not then replace the cat if the lambda readings are way out then its mroe than likely the sensor but if its the cat can be expensive might be worth looking at a sports cat instead of a standard one and if you dont wanna do that get sort of legite MOT

im doing both the lambdas today so will see if that makes a difference then the CAT, the HC reading was out as well which is a little worring as that usually indicates piston rings!!

well just wait and see lambda sensors play a major part unless there are mapped out i know someone who has tried to fix things and gone the wrong way about and turned out it was a sensor

Failed lamba will normally throw up a fault code, I suspect you have a cat problem.

i thought only one of them did as some have 2 lambda sensors and the front one normally doesnt throw up the code only the one after the cat? am well confused now
