engine dies under load mk3 gti 8v

Ok here we go.....
I was driving home from work fine,picked my kids up fine then on the way home the car started kangarooing i thought it might be a little bit of a clog so i reved it to about 3k and it dies...
So i tried turning it over to no avail.. so i decided to push it to the top of a nearby hill and try bumping it..YAY! it started but didnt want to rev too well...
So i left it running outside a shop while i went in and i came out and it was still running PUKKA!
But after accelerating to pull away it died again :( so i pushed it to the top of another hill and it started on the way down but it wont turn over from standstill

SO!
It seems like its getting a spark but running like crap and doesnt like a load

Im thinking rotor,dizzy or CPS?

What you guys reckon?

Thought about replacing all 3..
The rotor and dizzy are cheap but the sensor is 50 quid!

dont you have AA or RAC cover that fixes by the roadside? surely if that the part they need then they will replace it.. just a thought  :undecided:

Im not paying 125 quid for someone to fix my car when i can:) thats why lol

I would make sure it has fuel regardless what gauge says

My money is on the coil or Crank position sensor.

i can smell petrol up front when cranked and also hear petrol rushing through when the pump is primed..but ill put a fiver in
Havnt checked for a strong constant spark yet so ill do that too and ill update or ask more questions as necessary

 A Fiver isn't much, these days, less than a gallon.

fill it up with fuel, £5 isn't much these days, and I'd suspect ignition system as a first bet; thats coil, wires, dizzy arm and cap and plugs.

Ok i just got my car home and i drove it home!
It was reluctant yet started..driving it along it was skipping under heavy load but drives ok normally
It was tossing it down with rain yesterday so i think something got wet but not sure what
Just bought a rotor,dizzy and CPS from wilco just need to put them on
