The top mounts are loose on the rallye ones so just need to take off the locking nut and the other bolts bellow should hold the spring in place without loosing my fingers? :undecided:

Get some Golf3 GTI mounts in there.  Grab a whole set up off a scrapper, that way you'll know how they assemble, too.

One of the things it's worth robbing off a Golf3.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I would have DH and did along time ago, but I was thinking the Rallye ones are solid and new so just saving where I can mate!

Underlay carpet is another fav I steal off them better than the MK2 moldy ones you usually find

Low rumble does it get louder when you drive faster?
If it does it might be ball joint or wheel bearings?
Top mounts are more noticable going over pot holes and rough roads where the spring keeps hitting the top.
Problems with top mounts its only noticable if weights on them, but the ball joints and wheel bearings you can check with just spinning the wheel and listening.
Ball joints wiggle and see if there is play in them (they will move small amounts but not enough to feel like a space or metal hitting metal)

sounds more like top mounts bearings were checked short while ago, also on full lock reversing sometimes here a big boing noise and your right pot holes do make it sound worse

How do you actually change the top mounts? I'm new to all of this
Is it in the Haynes manual?

Thanks
