there should be a few bolt holes on the lip where the arch screws on but shouldn't be any holes on the visible part of the arch. when I took my arches off the were rusted badly in places, grinded down filled and touched up with rattle cans and there as good as new

be careful with the front ones, my rear ones were ok but the fronts where the arch meets with the door down in the corner this section is often totally rotten on older mk3s or ones that haven't been looked after in the past. with the arches off I could push my finger right through

a tube of glass fiber later and they weren't looking too bad but new arches will be needed in the near future
