You can get a wide track system off a Mk3 little more involved but better options out there, plus I think you can use 5 stud pattern more on wheel whore choice!
TBH a good drop on coillies and phat alloys should be a better option than making them wider just for looks?
I'm not a fan of spacers they prematurely wear out your bearings and if they crack for any reasons they will come flying off wheel aswell! Its a cheap ass way of getting wider wheel stance, but I just don't trust them even for sake of looks! Spacers cracking and flying out ect...what complete rubbish!!!Depending on the width, e.t of your rims and arch work will tell you how thick of a spacer you can use.On a completely standard car then 20mm wouldn't be an issue, as for prematurely wearing out bearings well that's rubbish as well.
