Ah right, well ive had the laptop-camera plugged in and i can operate the full camera functions using the laptop,so i was thinking if i set it up wireless i could do the same?
Or was that my skim read fail?

there is a canon remote app you can get but you'll need to google about that.  The course you've linked to is really aimed at the canon wi-fi grips, these basically transmit images over wi-fi / wired network to a listening computer.  This is usually used for studio work / events, the tog shoots with the assistant / retoucher processes the images to go on a projector etc

A cheaper solution is the Eye-Fi cards

Ah  i see, cheers for that.To be honest its not something i would make use of,i was just trying to get DH a bit of info on the subject.
I took a load of pics the other night at Lincoln cathedral, some real nice ones too, also sat on the dual carriageway trying to take some decent light trail shots. Then after my 3 hours out i came home and subsequently deleted every god damn picture by formatting the card by accident.
I dont usually fluff up like this so i was rather pissed off to say the least!

Formatted or deleted from the card?
I rescued photos off a compact flash card a while ago using a handy utility from Sandisk called Rescue Pro and it doesn't have to be a Sandisk brand card either, I did it on a Kingston card that had failed.

No i formatted it
I tried a few recovery programs but they only seem to search for .jpeg files and would recognise a .raw file.So i spat my dummy out and went to bed.

So ive been trying to do these light trail jobbies this evening.
I scoped a spot out in the daytime and then set off about 45mins ago and there were a load of bloody lorrys in the layby!

So i know the actual positioning isnt fantastic but any tips on getting the clarity better would be great.
Also tried to get my missus to drive the car round in a circle but shes a crap driver so it was more an oval!

The settings i used were:
ISO 100-200
Shutter speed 6-12s
F3.4(it wouldnt let me change that in Tv setting.
White balance-Auto

I just used a tripod and set the timer to 2s as i dont have a remote yet.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Gary

This one ^ is great, especially with the reflections in the car.

Good work.

My favourite:

They're really good, but you're white balance is off on the first two which IMO are the weakest of your shots. The latter ones are much much better.

What's your Flickr link?

Thanks mate, yeah the problem with the top 2 was behind me there was a grandstand with building work taking place and they had massive halogen lights all over so they threw things out a little.Shame as they would have looked quite nice with the cathedral in the background.

Not sure if im brave enough to step out of the auto wb setting yet ha ha

As for my link erm im not sure as im new to it.
 this could be it?

Added you as a contact on Flickr. You don't necessarily have to use manual white balance. Just a different setting!

You've inspired me to do some night time shots tonight.
