Help me sleep well!
« on: 07 April 2012, 22:50 »
Got a problem during the night where I can't breather through my nose, I always breathe through my mouth and this leaves me with a very very dry mouth in the morning (I breathe through my mouth most of the day too, I have to actually think about breathing through my nose to breathe through it). I always wake up thirsty, with dry lips and tongue (usually split tongue and lip from the dryness) and with bad breath, all due to breathing through my mouth all night long. I've tried vaseline on the lips, but my tongue still splits and the dryness is still there obviously.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this and how to solve it? It's been happening for years but it's been really annoying me lately.

I do this some nights, usually get a bl@@dy sore throat and cold symptoms following it if my throat has dried up.

Maybe best speaking with your doc if it's every night  :undecided:

Have you tried those tape/plaster type things that go over your nose? Like Rubens Barichello used to use to help breath through your nose?.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

+1.

Sleeping on your side can help, the Mrs Ex Mrs used to whine that I snored and found that sleeping on my side helps with breathing through my nose at night.

Yup, have tried them years ago and didn't help. Is it a possibility it could be the adenoids? My friend had them removed to help him breathe through his nose. I think it may be a trip to the GP as Jay said.

Position wise I sleep in all sorts through the night. I used to snore which annoyed the girlfriend, but I stopped all of a sudden and haven't done so for a few years now.

If it helps, I do have trouble when I do breathe through my nose. I feel like I'm suffocating, as in, I'm not getting enough air in quickly and feel panicky.

Do you suffer with nasal/sinus polyps ? My cousin had to have an operation to remove these because his nose constantly sounded blocked and couldn't breathe through his nose very well.

I don't know. I don't usually get a runny nose but I always have either one of the sides partly blocked, right now it's the left side but it changes every so often between sides.
