Mk3 Golf car audio beginner
« on: 29 May 2005, 08:47 »
Was the mk3 Golf GTI ever fitted with a CD player as standard? If so, are they still available? Or were there any VW aftermarket items?
I currently have a black and fairly plain Sony radio/cassette and am looking to upgrade to a CD but am not too keen on the silver/multi-coloured units that are on the market at the moment. Any suggestions?
If I go for a new unit, is the wiring a straightforward swap or will I need different connectors?
Thanks in advance!

The mk3 has an iso connection, which means its just a matter of unplugging one unit and plugging the new one in :cool@

you should be able to find a black faced cd head unit from somewhere. just do some shoppin arround and something will come up. I have a clarion cd/mp3/wma head unit whoch is black with some small brusher look aluminium bits on that match my wheel and gear knob etc. Added bonus is i can change the colour of the display so it lights up green the same as my dials etc.

Just happens to have a more powerful processor than my pc too and sounds absolutely outstanding!

oh and you can put your own message on the screnesaver too(no that it helps)

Wasnt cheap but was well worth it.

Suppose all im sayin is theres just about everything you can think of on the market so you should be able to find what your lookin for

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

Yeah, similar to golfpro i have an Alpine HU that is mainly black with bits of brushed aluminium, fits in very well with the mk3 dash, and you can customise the colour to exactly match the green light of the dials and dash.

Some late VR6s i've seen had an early version of the VW Gamma stereo fitted, probably in gtis etc too.  That looks quite nice.  Very plain and standard.

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

Just so long as the original head unit has "CD/MD control" written on it you will be able to run either a 6 or 10 disc Sony changer from it.
The 6 disc changer will also fit in the glove box quite nicely.
