Centre arm rest/console remove?

no seriously this one is REALLY loud.

it must depend on temperature or something cos it comes and goes some days but its always at a certain RPM range so certain vibrations set it off.

if i open the arm rest it was so loud it almost drowned out engine noise.



i just go the felt tape off ebay. seems to have done the trick


did you take you B pillars off? is it just 1 screw under the airbag badge? I've got a rattle on both b pillars and boy front door cards which i need to sort with some tape too.

Well, not wanting to start a fight - don't wanna roll around the floor about it   
Looking at your rattle list and then your last statement " only used for b road blasts",
ANY vehicle will need after a time of hard use some amount of tightening up, all those panels with all the stuff bolted to this and tied to that - under the effect of G can't help but move- after a time.

A true monocoque hull of a sailing yacht, carbon and epoxy with lateral re-inforced stiffeners and moulded in bulkheads will in time even with designed use flex, that's a monocoque and our cars are boxes stuck on frames with more boxes and frames with various materials attached/covering/bonded to...all that heaving around bends at any speed, things will pull away microscopically at first but any movement builds upon itself, with every harsh bend your dash and console are getting pushed pulled squeezed all at once...
 I drove a polo like a go kart, not bullish but fun. New bushes, wishbones, tyres etc etc, the dash eventually started creaking, the plastic centre con. gave its plasticky creak at roundabouts, it was obvious what was going on.
My next polo, (pictured in me danke golfsburg note) as a result of lesson learned, has been driven a bit more sensibly and it's showing no interior issues. Build is vorspung durk !

But mine rattles from all over and its used as a sedate commuter. Also own a 8 year old ibiza which is used for same duty but its rattle free as is our Leon a. After 2500  Only commuter miles my mk6 rattles like a collection tin. I wish mine was as good as mkvikens when I drove his. I really like his but sadly I keep leeving mine parked up and take the Leon as it does not rattle ticking throttle pedal or ad hard to drive in crawling traffic due to its odd clutch and throttle action.

my car has rattled from day one. its better now than the day i got it as i have managed to fix most rattles and creaks.

because i use my car for fun and not the shops or work doesn't mean it should have rattles. thats ridiculous.

i can't see how driving a car on twisty roads as opposed to pot-holed, speed bump infested city streets makes a car rattle more??? cars driven over bumps and used on daily basis are bound to have more rattles etc.

its a fact that using your car on long proper drives is better for it than short journeys to work/the shops etc etc.

like i said my car is always immaculately clean and meticulously maintained inside and out. im not getting into a fight over 'who treats there car better'. i know the answer already.


your car will have just as many rattle as mine or any other golf but maybe you listen to radio 4 or something. i rarely have the radio on so other noises don't get drowned out as much.

i don't throw anything or ask anything from the car which it shouldn't be able to cope with.

yes i agree. like I've said many times our 4 year old focus which has babies and dogs and sainsburys thrown at it on a daily basis has far less rattles than the golf.

i know 18" wheels and hard suspension have a lot to answer for and the interior doesnt have as many parts but still.

regarding my centre console it is so intricate, has so many stupid parts in it that it is bound to rattle. the whole handbrake trim assembly (which rattled on mine) has so many plastic parts made from different materials. if they expand/contract at different rates they will rattle.

the focus (and most other cars) have a leather gaiter not a huge plastic roller blind assembly. which one is better?

^ he is very car proud and has OCD bad I can confirm that he had his dusted out 3 times when he was at mine.
I can drop my car off to be cleaned  if you bored

hospital tomorrow for operation so will be in a cast for a month or so! right arm will be out of action for a while.

when I'm fixed i will give it a bit of the OCD treatment though no problem.

got some new OCD cleaning detailing brushes to test out!


i washed and waxed mine again yesterday (I'm addicted to that nattys wax!), cleaned underneath the car and hooked up the trickle charger and its put away for a couple of months!


i had a great drive to helmsley/scarbourgh/dalby forrest/whitby the other day as i won't be able to drive for so long so wanted to make the most of it!

Look, cars are long metal frames, they flex. Are you saying that you cleaned the flexing properties right out of your car ? Lol.
 Where you say mines gonna rattle like its a given, tut, u wish and hope we all fek our cars up so you don't feel so bad about your own scene...

" the car should be able to handle it"  of course it can but it needs tightening up after.
Long 'proper' drives are better on the motor than short shop runs ? No, every moment of action induces wear, frantic action more so.
Twisty roads = body roll = car flex in lateral and longitudinal planes, skyscrapers made of concrete n steel flex, mighty ocean going liners flex, but your golf doesn't ?

That whole post was a nonsense.

Did you not read the part when I said it had rattles from day one.

And the statement you make about having to tighten things up after a drive??


The reason ALL these cars rattle is because of the rediculous amount of parts used instead of using larger mouldings etc and different plastics used combined with the wheels/suspension.
