Bridgestone tyres
« on: 22 March 2012, 12:03 »
Just replaced my MK5 GTI with a Mk6 and I noticed a lot more tyre noise in the mk6, with Bridgestone Potenza fitted, compared to the mk5 which had Pirelli's.
Wondering if anyone had had same experience or suggestions/opinions.  Are Bridgestones known for excessive road noise?
What are considered best and hopefully quietest! for mk6 gti?
Cheers

The Bridgestones are sh!te! I've got them and can't wait to get rid. Like you say, lots of road noise and the grip isn't great. They'll do over the summer though.

I have to admit they are noisey, but at current Micheln PS3 wear rates the Bridgestones will last nearly twice as long on the front. Wont be buying the PS3s again at £140 a tyre £20 more than the Bridgestones.

Well I have Bridgestone Potenza's on mine and I don't find them noisy in the slightest. Dunlops are supposed to be the noisiest there have been loads of complaints at the dealers.

Is it a 3door with 18's? If it is your fighting a loosing battle.

I changed to f1 isometric and there better but it's still very road noisy.

I had bridgestone Potenzas on my MKV GTI. Utter rubbish tyre. Noisy and I suffered premature wear and sidewall cracking with them.
The Dunlops on my MK6 seem much better, but I think I'll try Goodyear F1's or Michelins next time, which seem to get v good reviews.

My GTI came with Potenza's. They were rubbish. Swapped to Dunlops asap which were much better but struggled with standing water. Then I tried Michelin Pilot Sport 3's and have opted for them again just there when I had worn through the original set. Best tyre by far that I've experienced on the Mk6 GTI.

Bear in mind I'm talking about 17inch wheels and tyres.

Bridgestones on mine for summer use.  I find them ok and still have the original set on, however I do have my Contis for winter so both sets are not on the car for longer than 6 months at a time.
