Rns510 - Dynaudio question
« on: 17 March 2012, 10:44 »
Ive recently fitted an RNS510 in place of the RCD 510... It's fantastic and works great. I have a couple of questions:
1) the car has the Dynaudio pack, does this need coding? (it used to say 'powered by Dynaudio' on the start up screen on the old radio, but now it doesn't)
2) it is version f, with the star button. The car has the factory Bluetooth but the voice command doesn't work on the RNS, I understand I need an additional microphone... Has anyone done this? Or does anyone know anyone near Coventry who could do it and programme the mic button the steering wheel?
3) the old radio was the DAB version, are these worth anything on ebay, the ones ive looked at are buy-it-nows but no normal auctions with any bids, and would I expect to be charged by the dealer for getting the code?

The car's a 61 plate GTD in red... :-)

Cheers

Have a look in the mk6 section.
There is a subsection in the mk6 section called maintenance and info, in there is a thread about retro fitting an rns-510 its what i used when i fitted my F version, All the info you need is in there.

That thread shows you exactly how to tell the new rns-510 what you car has installed including the dynaudio, bluetooth etc.

As above, you will need it coding for Dynaudio, not a big problem and if you are stuck I can help out, I'm probably about an hour and a bit away from Cov, CW5 post code. I'm sometimes in Birmingham, maybe once a month or so, next time might be 30th March as I have a Cisco exam there & also have an office in town, so could meet then if you needed.

I've just disabled voice commands rather than mess around with another mic, so that the star button simply repeats the last navigation command.

Your RCD 510 will definitely be worth something. Also from what I know (or what I've been told anyway), the dealer won't be able to get the code for the RCD 510 unless it is connected to the car. I was told VW no longer provide the radio codes. Not sure about the truth in this, but it may have been recorded during PDI as mine was, so ask your salesman if they can check their documents.

That sounds great, disabling the voice command makes more sense than messing about with the mic... I'll email the dealer about the code and see what happens. It'd be great if you could sort out the coding... Don't think I'm around on the 30th but I'll be happy to take a drive to CW5 to get it sorted - any excuse for a drive :-) let me know when's good for you...obviously I'll sort you out for your time! Cheers,
Dave

I took the car in today and the dealer got me the code for the DAB radio, I'll get it on ebay in the next week or so...
They got the MFD coded for the nav which is great.

Unfortunately the 'Master Tech' said he did not know how to code it for the Dynaudio pack or how to disable the voice command. After a brief discussion he agreed to raise an issue with VW to find out how to code the Dynaudio, and he agreed to switch off the voice command feature if I can tell him how to do it

So, if anyone 'in the know' could be so kind as to provide me with some instructions to pass on to him for the Dynaudio and the voice control it'd be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
