Radio FM sound is intermitent
« on: 27 May 2005, 10:33 »
got an MKIV with the VW radio (+ 6CD charger also from VW).
When I'm listening to the radio (usually FM music stations) the sound cuts of half a second once or twice a minute.  Its rather annoying and i cant imagine is a reception problem as i live in a big city.
Any ideas, suggestions

Have you got 'traffic info' and 'news' functions turned on?

Try turning them off and see if its any better. If they are on, that will be the cause.

I would say its definatley the RDS auto-tune EON or traffic/news/info.

I know what you mean when its cutting off. Youll find it only does it when your travelling, think its actually trying to find the best reception and I know some standard radio's cut out like you describe. Try taking all the extra settings off if you can and see if it fixes it.

yeah that RDS is constantly retuning the radio for the best reception. some units can do it without dropping the sound, some can't.

normally the button with TP or RDS turns it off just press a few buttons till its off, dont know about the standard vw radio but some have the tp on all the time to say its a available and when its activated it has [TP] instead of TP or TP On displayed along with RDS on the screen i had the same problem on a vauxhall but it didnt cut out it would go quiet for a few seconds then retune to Radio 1 as it is always the strongest signal in my area and XFM isnt.
