«
on:

Right just picked up my car and I went to wind the sunroof back and only one side starts to go and it just starts to slide back at an angle until it won't go anymore because it wedges?? Im stuck for ideas and I'm not sure how to even get at the sunroof?
My car is an 89 gti 16v if that makes a difference?
Thanks anyone who can help.

You need these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK1-MK2-SCIROCCO-SUNROOF-MECHANISM-CABLE-/260973834635?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cc340b18b#ht_607wt_946
But in all honesty, I'd try and locate some brand new ones, for the simple reason that old ones break!

It's a very involved job, that pretty much needs the whole sunroof stripping down, I had a look for an online "how to" guide, but drew a blank...
Anyone?

This will be a start, shows you how to remove the sunroof:

Check the parts that hold up the rear of the sunroof, if your problem is the same as mine was the black runner in picture 4 has broken. You'll need to unscrew the frame holding the cables and either replace the whole thing or the faulty cable, depending on what you get hold of.
Need to redo this myself as my replacement parts have now also broken. Might be able to help you out with parts. Will be taking 2 sets of cables and combining to make one good one so might have some useable stuff left after that.

I've renewed the cables in the past. I got my cables from the USA and they worked out slightly cheaper then here but still expensive.
Here is the company I got them from and had no problems. Didn't take that long to get here either.

For reference its section 11.14 of the Haynes manual which is linked here
