Smoking brakes
« on: 10 March 2012, 17:45 »
Hello guys just a quick one on my way home tonight (about an hours drive) and I noticed the rear drivers side brake was smoking and not just a little bit it was pouring out but I have had no warning on the dash or anything and it smells so bad of burning. Can anyone help with what this could be also the brakes are not getting low at all

So will this mean I need to replace the caliper? Also does it happen a lot on these cars?

Get it jacked up and see if the pad is binding on the disc first

It can happen on any car TBH

I have done that and there is no binding at all it seems fine, I have left it for half an hour and taken it back out again and given the brakes a bit of a kicking and no there is nothing at all wrong with them so could this have just been something that got into the brakes and has now burned off?

Hmmm strange  :undecided: I take it the wheel bearing feels tight ,no play top and bottom in the wheel?

Yeh everything feels fine, just had a mechanic have a look at it and he jacked it up and said everything was fine so it's so strange been back out in it since for about an hour with some heavy braking to try and see if it did it again but they seem absolutely fine now not even a smell or a slight bit of smoke, so I don't no if I just got something stuck in there or not but I will be keeping a close eye on them as I wasn't even braking hard
