I have got the original 16v Key with my car with the fob with 16v on it that the key fits into and also a spare key without a fob but a press button light, now i love this key and want to keep it for best so i thought i would try and get one of these keys with the VW logo inside it to use for everyday.

Is there a problem with me using one of these keys? Also i would like to get an original key and not a fake (anyone point me in the right direction?)

The previous owner also brought a MK5 flick out key that has not been cut but im not so keen on using this but i would like to know if you could program it to use with the central locking to make it remote central locking, or is there some other better way of doing this?

  Is that the 2 piece 16v key you are on about and which key is it you love, the 16v one or the one with the light on it? As for a replacement key, if you want original speak to VW. I doubt you would find one there but you never know. I'm sure someone probably does a non OEM key on the internet auction site. They are usually blanks so all you would have to do is take it and one of your own keys to a key cutter and have it cut.
  As for the Mk5 flick out key. Mk2's didn't have remote central locking unless you have an after market alarm system fitted so Mk5 key can't be programmed to a Mk2. Unless it can be programmed to your alarm system which is very doubtful. The Mk5 blade is completely different to the Mk2 blade as well.

Nothing wrong with using the branded blank keys on Ebay..... As far as the flip key is concerned, you may want to look at:

It is the two piece key that i really like so i dont want to ruin it thats why i wanted to buy a new key for everyday use i was thinking that about the MK5 key, but i dont really like it anyway so i will probaly not persue that one.

Yeah i was thinking that.

Just a thought though, will this work with my 89 GTI 16v? It sounds kind of stupid but, I would obviously need it to unlock the central locking and work in the ignition as the normal key would.

Well obviously it won't work remotely but as long as you have HV Profile locks, it will work on both door locks and ignition.

how do i know if i have HV profile locks?

I think HV covers all MK1's, MK2's untill 1990, then I think it's AH from then onwards...  Someone may need to back me up on that though, are there any codes on the key itself?
