Under the steering wheel, there are two terminals, one yellow, one red, one is switched live, one is permanent, dont know which Is which.

For a decent connection, wire into there.

Ok nice one will have a look at the wkend if I can dig out a voltmeter.

You dont just wire things in like that. That is asking for a fire to happen. Find a circuit that is large enough to take the load and make sure it is fused. Don't wire them to the same point either.
If you have to ask how to do this sort of thing, it probably not wise doing it.

Twisting and taping wires is asking for trouble. You should be crimping or even better, soldering and heat shrinking connections.

Like what? Headlight switch or terminals under steering wheel?

Other way?

How else are you suppose to learn if you do not do things yourself? I understand it could cause a fire if you just wire it them in anywhere which is why im asking advice from anyone that has done this sort of thing before. I will be soldering and insulating all connections I just needed advice on where.

You learn by reading. You dont just tap into any old circuit, and you should always have a fuse holder in line for protection.
Learn to read vw current flow diagrams to find the right wires and circuits. If possible use a separate earth to prevent ground loops etc.

Modern Vw wiring is usually wrapped in loom tape and can be hard to trace wiring. That's where diagrams come in handy. If you need a specific diagram I have them.
