Chuffing fasntastic car
« on: 05 March 2012, 20:37 »
Since most posts on here are people with problems (me included) with their Mk2 or people asking for advice about the car I thought I'd just post a comment about how bloody fantastic my Mk2 is. Other than the occasional stall first thing of a morning it's running great, the new, standard suspension makes it a pleasure to drive. I've just driven it home after 5 a side, chucked it round some corners and roundabouts. It is genuinely fantastic and I walked in the house with a big smile on my face. Without doubt, I would sell my Mk6 (fantastic as that is in its own way) before the Mk2. I just felt the urge to wax lyrical about the Mk2.
We had a post on the Mk6 section about the little things that annoy you about that car. The thread went on for ages. I can't think of anything on this car that annoys me - I just get in it and love every minute of it.

Time for a whisky now ........

I know what you mean Andy.

I got mine out from under it's cover in the garage the other day. I'd forgotten to disconnet the battery before putting it away in the begining of November, but needn't have worried. It fired first time, and not a hint of tappety rattle either.

It was a very enjoyable drive. Just like stepping back to 1990. Perfect.

As you're on the whiskey. I might just join you. Glenmorangie fro me.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I know what you mean....

I use mine as a daily... and I've owned cars like Audi S2's, S4 Cab, RS6 Avant, Focus ST, Focus RS, Range Rovers etc etc.... And still come back to my MK2's & I wouldn't swap mine for any of the cars I've owned before...

I can't think of one niggle with my car - well  there is one but thats about to be fixed shortly!!

A Balvenie 12 year old Double Wood for me and it's going down really well too.

I thought I'd bought a cracker in November and, to be fair it needed some work doing on it, but I am really excited about the upcoming nicer weather and the shows. Without question, my best purchase of recent times (and that includes the 8v I had which was also faultless in the 2 years nearly I had it).

And that's why the Mk2 is the best GTI.

I wonder if the Mk6 section has seen this post.

I've always wanted one since I was a youngun and my grandad had one. I was a little worried and nervous about the test drive on the one I bought. I've heard people say not to drive your childhood icon incase they are a disappointment but with less than half the power of my daily, my 8v gti test drive was still amazing and I had to have it!

Also got the admit there is only a couple of tiny things wrong with it but on the while it's still like new!

Great thread this!

I agree, I've wanted one for years and finally got one, it needs loads done to it but it's still brilliant.  Best car I've ever had :D
