k03s turbo problem
« on: 04 March 2012, 20:13 »
I've had my car custom mapped on my agu for a few weeks now and i love it. Recently when my turbo (k03s) kicks in I hear a whining noise which sounds like its supercharged but when im stuck in traffic and driving along at 5-10mph i can hear a rattling metal noise but when i driving over that and i come on boost it goes, i still boost up to 20-22psi and hold boost fine, no oil leaks etc

Is my turbo on its way out?

turbo shafts run on brass bearings (unless it's a ball bearing turbo) which in turn sit in the housings. If they are too far gone they can wear the core metal resulting in a lump of scrap

Bet bet is get the turbo off and get it looked at mate, it will probably have a fair bit of play in the shaft. Look for scores on the inlet housing where the blades may have been touching too

that's the problem, the turbo is ALWAYS spinning even if driving off boost

You can have a quick check before you take the turbo off by taking the TIP off and giving the shaft a wiggle and a spin by hand. Any movement in/out isn't good and also any blades catching on the housing
