GTD questions please
« on: 29 February 2012, 18:48 »
hi Newbie here, I am going to buy my mates 09 plate Golf GTD which i am really looking forward to. It has done 60k miles and I was wondering when the cambelt needs changing? and should i have it done straight away? Also, is there anything else i should have done now it is just about out of warranty?  It has full service history so i shall carry that on. Is there anything i should know about the car? as i have not owned a golf before. Thanks in advance!
Paul

HI,

I think the cambelt is not due a change until either 100k or 120k; can't remember off hand but I know it's not 60k like the older PD engines were. AS there are no unit injectors now; there's less loading on the belt.

sssh; it's 'only a diesel'; but i love it!

put her in to VW for the MOT a week before the Warranty expires, that way any warranty work will be picked up!

Thanks Keith,
I was going to get the cambelt changed as if they go its a broken engine. Thanks for the manufactures figures, thats a long life for the cambelt! If it goes outside warranty i guess you would be covered. Thanks for the MOT tip. Is servicing expensive on the GTD?
thanks paul

 were you actually driving it or were you just steering and being pushed with the engine turned off?

That sounds incredibly high, even for a diesel. Is your fuel consumption being calculated correctly by the computer? Think I'd check it manually next time I filled the tank.
