Remember the G60 was a supercharged 8v, they thought that was worth it when they made it

G60 is a whole different ball game, various reasons why VW did it (mostly rallying) but these days it is old tech.

This thread is worth a read: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=101392.0

Oh im not going to pretend supercharging an 8v is a waste of money and will make no real power, but if i was walking arround a show i would be attracted to the 8v with the supercharger on the side... its diffrent, its fun, and i would love to see more if it. if i came accross a MK3 with a 1.8t, i would take a look and walk on, because i see that every day in my passat estate lol.  If you want power... sell the MK3 move on... if you want to be something special... do it.  If you you want a powerfull MK3, put a 1.8t in it, you would LOVE it,  but not as much as the sound of the supercharger.   If you dont have money to waste,  spend it wisely,  supercharging the 8v is not power for money,  its being diffrent for money.   Think about what you want out of it.   Im very much pro the idea as i love to see it,  people say dont be so stupid, because you would have the same result by getting a 16v golf.... totally fair point.... cant argue that.

G Werks, or was it the phirm? Well one of them made a 320bhp g60 engine. I'm sure you can get that from the 2.0 8v

They spent a lot of money though

Considering how fragile the G lader supercharger is, 320bhp is nuts.

What would be the most cost effective route to turbo the 8v?

Turbo conversions on the 8v are done lots in the states, you need the head off a 2.0 8v engine thats found in the  mk4 golf GTI 2.0

its a crossflow head.. iv just bloody scrapped one too!!

i think turbo kits are readily available for this set up in the US.. I don't know loads about this one unfortunately but over on the Vortex forum the info is all their to see..

Turbos are much better than S/C.. more Torque and thats what wins u races
