Any difference in mpg 2.slow and 20vt
« on: 22 February 2012, 11:59 »
I doubt there's much difference but my 2.sh!t is doing 28mpg on the no.2 setting on the trip comp. Get around 100 miles to £20.

I want and need a diesel really BUT it would have to be a gt tdi and there so f**king expensive I only really want to spend £1500 and I reakon I could get a lesser mileage 20vt then I could a gttdi.

Any thoughts to help a brother out?

My 1.8t is pretty thirsty, on a gentle motorway run I'll see ~34mpg, around town its more like 25-26mpg.

Have you worked out your fuel consumption with pen & paper? You might find it is completely different to what your trip computer is telling you.

I used to get 100 miles from £15 (1.39/litre) on my stage 2 1.8t on a single motorway run driving at 60-65mph, this is before the rebuild when there was alot Of blowby (140,000 miles on the clock)

Could be optimistic if my trip computer miscounted a few miles and my satnav and the fuel pump delivered a few litres of fuel off.
My calculated fuel consumption is similar to what the vehicles average mpg calculated.

Mine is around 23 / 24mpg average, I am lucky in that I do not use the car much.

Around town I've not calculated my fuel consumption before but the average reading shows over 30mpg, it might be that my golf is ~200kg lighter than a standard gti but would think this makes little difference when on the motorway.

The biggest problem is that if you have a 1.8t then you'll want to get it mapped. Once it's mapped you won't want to drive it sensibly

My 1.8t is mapped up with all bolt on mods and I drive it everyday, it's not often that I push it. I drive it like a diesel  don't really need feel the need to be in boost around town. I hope the fuel consumption with my big turbo setup it will be just as kind to me.

I don't often drive in boost either, average 30-33 on the trip computer on A roads going to work and get at least 35 on the motorway. Usually get around 120 miles from £20 of V-Power.

It's more economical than my previous 1.8 16v N/A car that had 123bhp - did rag that though as it was gutless below 4000rpm
