Who told you that?
They are an idiot.

The Mk6 is in a different league to the Mk4...the Mk4 is an ill handling, understeering barge with wallowy, under-damped suspension and ARBs made of string.
The Mk6 handles properly...so you don't need to change the suspension in order to make it corner.

I'm not surprised you had hard suspension on your Mk4 if you have cheap-ass FK coilovers wound all the way down.

On a Mk6, you need to do nothing for road use.
Lower it 20mm or so on quality springs if you want it to look better...but anything other than that, for road use, will ruin it.

Seriously, anyone that told you a road going GTI/GTD Mk6 (with properly designed and damped suspension with a multi-link back end) 'needs' suspension is a fool who hasn't got a clue what they are speaking about.

That's a 9.5 et30 rear, low, and -3 camber. It will look rediculous at stock height/alignment.

But mine will be 9.5 rear with et 40

To be fair, and I think that most on here will agree with me, that sort of set up will never handle as well as stock however much money you throw at suspension.

If those looks are your thing, then fine, but expect to suffer compromises in terms of handling, comfort and general drivability. Maybe you would find the answers that you would like to hear on this subject over on Edition38?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I just like those wheels unless there are some similar with perhaps 8j all round then it wouldn't be such an issue?

No he clearly doesn't.

If someone wants to buy a decent car and ruin it by dumping it in the weeds and 'cambering' it to achieve scene queen like 'tuck' and 'poke' so they can run stupidly wide wheels, let them get on with it.

Why on earth do you want 9.5" wide rear wheels on a FWD hatchback?

You have been told already that 8" will fit fine.
