Can't reach all the bolts when changing sump :(

Well as titled really, I went to Change my sump a little while ago and I couldn't get access to all of the bolts. I think there was maybe 2 bolts I couldn't get access to.. I've had a good search on different forums and the net to try and find some answers but couldn't find anything :(

Anyone got any info on how to get to them?

I ended up paying a garage and it was a insane amount to get sorted...

It was a 1.6 8v

Cant see anhonest mechanic charging amy more than 20 minutes of work time.
Sometimes bolts are a pain to find. Thays why vagcat are indipsensible!

Your obviously referring to the 2 bolts on the gearbox side of the sump. Absolute b!tch to get to, but can  be done with a flexi extension bar for the ratchet (dont know the proper name but heres one similar)

Yea as in the last post on the gearbox side. I will get a photo this week to show you.. Have you managed to get the bolts off with one of those flexi things. It looked pretty much impossible to reach with out moving the gearbox out of the way or something..

Take the plate off thats attached to the gearbox it's half moon shape it stops stones and excess water getting into the bellhousing then you should get them easy

Thanks Todd, I did read in the Haynes about taking something off.. But I couldn't see where you actually take it apart :/ and typically that's the only thing that wasn't pictured in the Haynes.

I will get under it this week and try and get some pictures..

Its just a thin alloy plate that sits over the gap and is secured by 2 bolts. Its still a twit to get at as the angle is funny (bends one way, then the other) iirc, should be able to get it off with the flexi though. I took mine off with the engine and GB out though, but I need this for the Raddo when I get round to doing it.

I know the bolts you mean, we had trouble getting some off a mates sump, we even had one of those flexi things but they were on so tight it wouldn't work. In the end we had to take the gearbox off
