Central Locking Pump
« on: 26 September 2003, 13:19 »
Chaps
Got another problem & was wondering if you can help.  When unlocking the car using the alarm fob (haven't tried with the key yet) I can hear the pump start up and the car unlocks.  The problem is that the pump carries on pumping for what seems like an eternity until it eventually stops, however the pump does stop immediately when the key is turned in the ignition.

I have removed the pump a couple of times, fiddled around with it and the put it back. It then seems OK for about 5 minutes before playing up again.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Are all the doors locking properly? if not then you have a vacuum leak in the system, probably a hose has come off where the door opens.

All the doors lock ok and the pump seems fine, problem is just that when unlocking the car the pump takes ages before is shuts down.  I have heard from a friend that it could be a vacuum leak somewhere in the system.

I reckon you have a vacuum leak too. I did have a troubleshooting guide for the central locking system, I'll have to try and dig it out again.

The problem now seems to be getting worse so that would be great.  Thanks.

i have a 4dr gti and where the vacuum pipe goes into the passenger back door frame keeps popping out thus not locking doors etc !! you must have a leak somewhere in ya pipes !! or a dodgy connector somewhere !!

Thanks for digging that out.  I'll have a go at sorting it over the weekend.  If I still have no luck i'll get my mate to look at it when he services the car in a week or two's time.
