ABS Issues
« on: 16 February 2012, 11:12 »
Hi folks, Car failed its MOT due to ABS light staying on and was told its the front right sensor which I've just finished replacing but no joy, stuck the car on my new diag machine and it advised me of the following..

Front right sensor fault
Front left sensor fault
Rear left Sensor fault
ABS pump fault
In turn the Air Bag light is always on and when the Air Bag system was scanned the fault code pointed back to the ABS again.

Any ideas?

Mike

There is a pump fault there, so its quite possible the ECM on the abs unit has failed, could well cause fantom fault codes on the sensors too.

There was actually a recall many moons ago for failing pumps on the MK3, and indeed to this very day there still is on other makes for bosch units blowing brake pressure sensors.

Step 1, will be a new pump unit.
Step 2, clear codes, see whats remaining,  you might find they all clear, or at least the sensor you replaced will clear
Step 3, replace any other failed sensors.

May sound stupid but did you clear all the codes first then take it for a run?

If you have cured the problem then you need to get it above 15mph to clear the abs warning light from the dash.

Right i've deleted all the error codes and removed the airbag fuse and refitted it after 2 minutes.  Air bag light now functioning correctly.  Drove it down my road at 30 and ABS light still on but now the only codes showing are for the front drivers sensor and rear right sensor..

If thats the case it will just be the sensors, not an uncommon complaint on the MK3, im sure lots would agree.
