dealer discount ?
« on: 15 February 2012, 20:38 »
Hey guys, need a bit of help. Basically i drive a mk6 1.4 and im due to change and would love a GT 2.0 140 but after
a quick visit to the local dealer i was informed the match has a cracking spec and only misses out on leather and
bluetooth compaired to the GT, for 3/4k less. Plus you can get the 2.0 140 engine in it !

Question is, what sorta discount should i be chasing for? i know a new customer should get around 1500 discount
after a haggle? For a second purchase should this be much more?

I noticed the GAP insurance is £440, i can get this online for £180 so ill be taking that out. Im also looking some extras
totalling around 2k.

Thanxs in advance for any help :)

If I were buying a new car I would be dealing with two dealers and playing them off against each other, the one who wants your money most will give you the best discount.

Www.autoebid.com or drivethedeal.com should give you a good idea of what to ask for.. Print the price off and take it in (or you could just buy from one of those sites as you'll still be buying from a main dealer)

You can expect what you want but if they dont give it you don't get it! Thats why using multiple dealers is the only real way to know if you're getting the best deal.

Oh and if i'm stating the obvious, make your post clearer.......

Spot on Jimmy
where I stay VW dealers are sparse and most are run by Arnold Clark. I went to three dealers with a Mitsubishi Outlander to trade in.
Discount could not be had they just would not budge , however one dealer offered more than the others for the outlander. Swings and round abuts.

What Car and Auto Express have a section of the 'Price You Should Pay'
We all like to save money but at the end of the day a local dealer is important to me, if any problems creep up they tend to take more care of you. The VW branch I use is small. They presented my wife with a painting.

Options is where you should get the biggest discount. Sometimes they will say they cant discount options... come straight back with 'Well why dont you take options into consideration when you part exchange' dont listen to the 'its personal to the buyer bullsh!t, its not'.

you should aim for between 5-10% imo. If you dont get it, go somewhere else.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Aim closer to the 10, I reckon, as that's about what I've got on a factory GTI order
