Front wishbone query....2.0 Gti
« on: 14 February 2012, 12:11 »
Can anyone confirm if the rear bush on the front wishbones require a sleeve or is it the clamping force that keeps it centralised? The hole diameter in the bush is larger than then bolt used to secure it and know that Mk2's use a sleeve but mine definately didn't have any when I removed the old ones.

Many Thanks.

It should have a sleeve in it.

Its just that the subframe has a U shaped recess on it to stop side to side movement and the tightening of the bolt holds it in place. Definately had none when they came out and I suspect my old ones were the originals.

Anyone got a part number or know a place I can buy them?

Done a bit of reading and I keep coming across people saying that the Mk3 does not have these sleeves from the factory and the sleeves you can buy are merely for centralising the bush into position so not essential. The recess in the subframe along with the clamping force is what keeps it in position.

I think it is still better to have the sleeve if you can.
