reverse noise :(
« on: 09 February 2012, 22:58 »
hi, iv had my mk4 1.6 16V a few weeks and love it! iv noticed that when reversing there is a knocking noise coming from the front of the car, id say from the gearbox or drive shafts. the faster i reverse the faster the knocking gets.

iv found out that putting the car in reverse and letting it roll back with the clutch pushed down makes the noise but letting the car roll back in neutral stops the noise. the problem only happens in reverse so im guessing its to do with the reverse gear?

i just wondered if anybody knew of this problem or would be able to give me a few pointers as iv read the gearbox are a ball ache on these golfs :(

many thanks
simon

Ok so if it was a gearbox problem is a a problem that will be fine to drive around with for a few months or is it going to cause me even bigger problems?

Thanks again
