again I'm not slagging the GTI as i really love and enjoy my car but its not what the marketing and sales people would have you believe it is.

I have to agree with this but ironically, we are all benefitting from VW's clever marketing cos of the resale. There's still enough idiots out there who believe the hype so they still pay top dollar for the cars. This is one of the reasons I still buy VWs. Unfortunately, one day the cat will get out of the bag that they're no better than anything else on the market and the resale will sink to everyone else's level.

Been in a colleague's new Polo today. She's had it 4 months. Nice car but it creaks and groans like my GTi and the plastics (other than the top of the dash) are all hard and cheap.

Perhaps we all have different understandings of what cheap and quality are. I'm by no means a Golf or VW or GTI fanboy (in that I'm blinkered) but I will admit to being a VW, Golf and GTI fan.

Perhaps it's also down to the way we look after our cars but my GTI has really impressed with it's quality.

A while away yet, and maybe not competition for the GTI, but hope the new S3 looks a good bit different to the standard...

Agree, I like the look of it from all angles apart from the front as it looks far to much like the A1.

well my car is absolutely treated like a baby

never comes out in bad weather, never ever left in car parks, lifted every couple of weeks to wash underside, waxed and polished every month at least (which is a lot due to the little miles the car does and the weather it drives in), interior is cleaned and vacuumed before its even dirty, always warmed and cooled down properly like turbos should be - and mine still rattles...
