I'll give it 20 minutes before all the badge snobs come along to scoff!!!

I parked recently next to one of these and thought it was a stunning looking thing. Other than that, I can't comment with any authority never having owned a Renault. However, if they have the confidence to offer a 4 yr 100 000 mile warranty, why can't VW? (and yes, that was a rhetorical question cos I do know the answer)

well i know form experience that the 4 year warranty will be getting well used!

Thing is with RS you know what your getting and i don't think they try to be what they're not. they're just great drivers cars first and foremost. i bought a VW cos i wanted to keep it for years and thought it would age and last better but even though i love it, i don't think its much better built really and it isn't a patch on an RS to drive.

i would consider a mk7 in a couple of years but if its not a massive improvement i will go back to RenaultSport or ford if the ST or new RS is any good as they're much better value and more fun imo.

Badge snob driving a VW are you joking, I really can’t see where the snob bit comes from. Some of you have bought into marketing LOL
I have driven VW’s for the best part of 30 years and have yet to suffer a large bill or be stuck from driving.
When the last Honda Civic came out I quite fancied one so took it out for a test drive what shocked me was the road roar inside the cabin it was really loud. I could not live with that.
French cars are always at the bottom for reliability in ‘WHICH’ Then you have the huge deprecation at resale time.

Fords are fine cars just lack that special feeling. I drove a Focus down from the top of Scotland to me it felt cheap, the gear box felt light and insecure.

Liked the new Astra it felt nice but resale value after three years is horrendous.

Audis are well over priced.

BMW and Mercs, I’m put off with rear wheel drive, living in Scotland the roads can be wet and slippery while snow can be a problem in winter.

Ultimately as a middle of the road working class car the golf stay’s tighter for longer. Think how many miles it took your MPG to even out. As a private motorist the Golf is everything I ever need in a car then after three years I get a good price back.

Fully understand those who crave something different and jump from marquee to marquee its all part of the fun of driving. I done it in my younger day’s until I found the right marquee for me. VW

IMO VW have forgotten who and what they are, the GTI, the ED35 and R and too expensive for what they are. The R is more than the S3 FFS.

They are pricing themselves too high and I will not be buying a MK7 new for sure, I may get an ex-Demo but not before I jump to another manufacurer.

IF people buy em what is VW doing wrong

branding / restricting supply gives them a win, ffs APPLE are the biggest culprits
but we all keep goin back..........!!

It will only change when the customer does continually walk the other way.

There argument will always be, whats the re-sale like for you sir, did the overall
ownership cost end up less than that of the Renault or Vauxhall ?
You may then have a different opinion on all this then  :lipsrsealed:

potts

ps
Yes, I do think 38K for a golf R is silly tho

Depreciate is simple though "If you want to lose the least cash over three years, you need to start with a low list price in the first place" *Quote WhatCar.com

VW group is biggest motor manufacture in the world now for good reason.
The new Polo R is coming soon 210 bhp and it’s bigger than a mark 2 golf. I’m only pointing out there is a car for all budgets. VW as a group have it all pretty well covered. You can buy a Seat Leon for GTI money with the same engine as the Golf R.

At top of the range Civic 2.2 diesel is £24,000. Almost the same price as a seat Leon with the Golf R engine 19’ alloys and leather. It’s not for me but if your looking for value plus quality it’s hard to knock

I've always thought the new Megane is a looker. Especially in red with the gloss black front and wheels. Looks wise, it's a big thumbs up from me. What gets a thumbs down for me though is the lack of a DSG equivilant box (not everybody's cup of tea I realise), slightly impeded practicality due to the looks, and the resale value. Also, RenaultSport vehicles have a reputation of being the best drivers/track car, and that's great, but it's not quite what I want from a car.

As for this whole debate, yes a more expensive car is likely to lose more money, but that's most demonstrated when comparing a Ferrari and a Fiesta which, even if the Ferrari retains a better percentage (say 60% compared to the Fiesta's 50%), the Ferrari has still lost the most cash. But when you're comparing two hot hatches, both £26-27k depending on options, the rule becomes less definite.

But more importantly, Jimmymature maybe you'd be better over here http://www.focusstoc.com/forums/, because you don't seem to be too happy over here.

LMFAO, shame on me to voice an opinion that VW is over priced and not good quality.  I must be banished......
