I had Vauxhall's and Opel's for years until I could buy into the VAG brand and I have not looked back since. I like the look of the car and the promise of power and spec look very tempting.

I have to hire cars on business a lot so regularly drive the competition and I don't think there is a really bad car now in this segment but I do feel that they don't offer the same quality feel and complete package. There is plenty of choice which is cheaper and it does show so I am happy to drive a VW. Plus don't forget 'GTI' is a legend. Golf GTI's have always been behind the competition on absolute numbers but there is no car in this segment that does everything so well. Therefore I will stick with my GTI
Current: GTI Edition 35 Candy White 5dr DSG 19" Glendale, RCD510+DAB, Dynaudio, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors

Gone: Edition 35, GTI Mk6, Edition 30, GTI Mk4, GTI Mk3, GTI Mk2 and my favourite the UR quattro
For those that dont know DSG is an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox

Definitely not keen on that. Looks far too over-styled.

I would feel embarrassed driving that actually.

I've had another look at it. I really liked the previous/current VXR model. I thought the styling on it was fantastic and overall I thought it presented a much better package than some of it's rivals.

This new VXR however really does look daft though. The big oversized exhausts at the back - I bet they aren't even proper exhausts and are instead these silver look plastic surrounds that so many cars seem to come with now.

I think people are missing the point

Its a Hot Hatch and looks like one. VW and Audi will always make the more subtle hot hatches but this will appeal to plenty of people

the new clio sport will be out late 2012/early 2013.

thats will be THE hot hatch. no arguments. Renault have always known how to make them best hot FWD cars.

if only they got their customer service/dealer network under control i would consider one. i looked at the megane 250 but couldn't justify the cost knowing in 12 months it would half its value, which is why i bought the GTI.

i think the focus ST will be a massive hit and the biggest rival for any 'hot hatch' manufacturer.

for the best all rounder though the GTI will still be king but for value the ford and for substance and ability the renault. the vauxhall will be sitting in a cloud of tyre and clutch smoke.

The GTI isnt really competion for all the other hot hatches like the VXR, Megane Sport and Focus RS etc, surely its the R thats in competion with them? thats like putting the Focus ST up against the Golf R instead of the Focus RS?
