GTD Engine Idling Speed

Has anyone had any problems with their GTD not idling at the usual 780 rpm (excluding the regeneration cycle)?

My GTD will start up at 780 rpm then run at 980 rpm until the temperature gauge reaches 90 degrees or sometimes will still idle at 980 rpm 15-20 miles into a journey.

The car has been back to the dealers twice and they say the diagnostics says nothing is wrong, the engine is desinged to rev at 980 rpm when there is load on it e.g. heater and lights

What's anyone's views on this - as I'm unhappy with this scenario and having previously owned a 59 plate GTD for 2 years which never did this and my current 61 plater has only done this for 4 weeks

Mine tends to idle at around 800 but rarely seen it idling at 1000

Recently I have noticed mine being a bit 'lumpy' at idle when cold but even then I don't think it is increasing the RPM

Mine definetly idles faster when its really cold first thing after starting not 980 though more 900. It does normally idle at 780ish. I wold have said that's its doing alot of regens by the sound of it.  Are you doing lots of short journies? Mine can do regens at anytime and will always start doing it again the next time at some later point if it doesn't get to complete properly on the last cycle.

my journeys are mostly 15 miles to work and then 15 back daily, plus 60-100 mile runs each way every fortnight, with not much town driving.  Also I'm rather a fast driver, so I don't think my GTD is 'blocked up'.

Is it more often than every 800 miles is. As that's how often mine does it. I do 28 miles each way per day. Maybe the fastvdriver which is what causes it as it produces more soot?

^+1. Idles at around 900-950 rpm when the weather's cold and the engine's not up to normal operating temp at this time of year. Normal idle speed in warmer weather or when the engine's fully warmed up at this time of year is just under 800 rpm. I try and make sure I give it at least one good run each week to hopefully avoid DPF problems in future as currently, journeys to and from work are around 7 miles each way.

Mine idles a touch over 800rpm cold and 800rpm hot.

Is this something to do with the diesel 'waxing' a little?

Winter diesel is different to summer diesel to prevent freezing and waxing. It still gets a little thicker in very cold temperatures though.
