It depends on your skill set.

I had 10-20 job offers a week, i have just taken permanent employment instead of contracting. Im still getting people trying to poach me, but i have specific skills that are saught after and are rare (compared to a bricky say)

My other halfs dad is a superb builder, knows and can do everything, he has had to get a cab license to pay ends meat as there is no work in that trade, even then he struggles to get slots with the car. He will work all day, his skill list is huge and he is a hard worker, but if the job you are going for has hundreds or thousands of other people then there is always someone better than you!

Oh, with the shopping thing, me and the missus spend about 45 quid a week and we shop in M&S, so its more than possible in somewhere like morrisons! Vouchers, deals, veg from the markets etc Tap water, take lunch to work, no crap foods

Aren't you posh
I live with the wife and 3 kids, we shop at ALDI, and it comes to around £80 a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.
But i do eat at the chip shop 4 days a week  :lipsrsealed:
This does include all the shopping, not just food.
I assume everyone does buy more than just food as part of the weekly shop?

I wouldn't say my skill set is amazing i am just a Warehouse Manager but i am good at what i do. When i got made redundant i ended up working for half the money i am on now but had to be done to get myself back on the ladder. I find it easier to get a job if you are already in a job, so take what ever job comes along to put myself back in the market.

How about someone addresses the real problem, most people who are out of work for a long time but genuinely trying to get a job find it hard, lots will have got degrees or done one specific type of job and not have any experience doing anything else, but there is no work in their chosen field so they have to find a job in a different field, trouble is all company's want someone with experience, how can someone get experience if no one will be the first to give them a job?

Most company's don't give training anymore so you have to pay for everything yourself which while out of work is not possible, the jobcentre does give training but it isn't any good, I done an SIA course to do security, I finished the course and was then told I had to find £275 to pay for the licence, I had a job waiting for me but just couldn't find £275 out of nowhere, I tried borrowing it but no one had it to lend me so I went to the jobcentre and asked if they would pay for it, I offered to pay it back and sign off there and then but they wouldn't, so for the sake of them lending me £275 I claimed for months before I got another job.

They should make people do training courses, not the rubbish ones they have now but one that mean something and that will actually help people back into work, bring back the £1000 bonus for company's who employ people who have been on jobseekers for 6 months or more.

Why not offer to work for a company for free?

I know lots of people that have done this... make your self employable during your 'trial' period

I have offered but would only be allowed to work 1 week 2 at a push without my jobseekers being affected and I need to tell the jobcentre about it first so they can check the company out and make sure there is really a job there at the end, then they will tell me if I'm allowed to do it or not. Also most of the work is over 20 miles away, which would cost me £10 per day in travel which I can't afford, I'm nearly £2000 in debt now so I only offer if the job is near me and I could bike or walk there.

I look for work up to 60 miles away, permanent/temp, full/part time, day/night, I was working as a labourer but there is no work around so my boss had to let me and another go, third time I've been laid off by him, I have only really done labouring, fencing and worked at a racing kennels, only 1 job ever had any tax or NI contributions paid on my behalf even though I wasn't self employed for any of them, so none of them will admit I worked there let alone give me a reference and I never went to school.

So for me work is hard to come by, as on paper I have not gone to school, don't have any qualifications, don't have any employer references and have not worked since I was 17, if you were in charge of recruitment would you employ me? I know I wouldn't

Benefits should be scrapped........I'm sickin tired of working my ass up to feed my self and family and these people live their lives better than me without working (on my tax converted into benefit for them).

If they are unable to work, then how come these people can have child every year

You have missed my point. Yet managed to help me make my point also. Excuses...

why do you need to pay £10 to travel... bus? walk? bike? get help from a friend that may just appreciate that you are not sat on your a$$

If there are no jobs where you are... then how do your neighbours earn a living?

Not paying NI or Tax are choices you have made and reeped the benifits of. Not me.

Again its any excuse to not do anything... I was unemployed for 3 months last year. I didnt even go to the job centre to sign on. I knuckled down and found work by voulenteering where others wouldnt invest their time.

Try it

*edit excuse the spelling i could type anywhere near as fast as I was thinking

Are you on a diet then?
60 quid to feed 4 adults, that's the funniest thing i've heard for ages.
You must be starving
I also presume you mean 60 quid just for food, or you talking about your total shopping bill?
£60 for whatever we need that week. Can go up to £80 if we have simultaneously bought bog roll, washing powder etc.

No one smokes or drinks in our family either.

How much do you all spend? Think it's time for a poll!

A weekly shop that lasts two weeks is about £60, but really its more like £80 due to the amount of milk we buy in that time period plus nappies between me, misses and the little one, it would be less if you didnt have to buy extra's along the way like the odd extra battery etc otherwise it probably be more like £50 over the £60.

People at work get shocked when I say it yet they know I do make good food as they see me t lunch but are baffled when there weekly shops ar £80-150... Really don't know what they buy?

Also I'm not skinny so you can't throw that excuse saying I live on the bread line
