axle stands
« on: 01 February 2012, 13:05 »
Where's the best place to wack my axle stands, the manual says on the sills but there's no way I'd trust mine, is each end of the subframe ok? And just got a bottle jack for £15 is that an alright deal and do many people use them (some pikey stole my trolley a few months back so thought I'd replace it with the bottle

Have a good look under the car and you will find a good solid area. Good luck with the bottle jack though, becareful.

I put mine on my rear beam and subframe. Best places for them.

If you want to work on rear beam or subframe, then get some soft wood and place that between axle stand and somewhere flat

Same. I pick something flat, as close to something structural as I can. That way there's a fair chance it wont appear in the foot wells :P

I usually put them under the subframe just on a little flat piece in line with the jacking point, or the rear beam.

Subframe rear mounting bolts are certainly solid enough for it to sit onto axle stands.
