Its not just your sump, but also your wishbones and subframe will be very low. Coilovers are the only way of fine tuning your height. I'm governed by speed bumps at work, and I miss all of them bar one which I just about scrape on, but as mines dumped on hot tunings when looking underneath everything else is scary low!! Can't go any lower unfortunately.. This year I'm going for some spax rsx's or whatever they are, and though the car won't look as good as it does slammed now it'll handle far better and not be so stupidly low.. I think that was grand advice you were given

Its not that hard to make I reckon only thing that worries me is the aid of cooling and hot spots if the oil capcity has seperate pockets. Schrick have fins and ridges to help with cooling, but thats a cooling issue not ride height.

made a few shallow sumps in the past, they are a twerp to do.    makeing the sump shallower is easy   but you have to shoretn the pickup,   problem is do that and there is bugger all oil in it, so you have to put wings on it  then getting at the bolts is fun

Did you not have major problems with distortion and sealing with these? The suggestion of running side compartments for extra capacity is the same as what Shrick run on their (expensive!) sump pans and is a good idea if you do go this route.

IIRC the earlier (pre-85) K-Jet cars had a shallower sump and oil pickup (they certainly run with a litre less oil in them) but I could well be wrong on the sump depth. Saying that, they did have solid lifters and not hydraulic......

As for everyone elses advice that you should raise your car being unhelpful, well if the answer is so bloody obvious that you cant see it then clearly you need it pointing out . They do handle like crap when they are that low too, Ive found this on both of the Mk2's I have had......

if you try and modify one loose it will twist and warp someting silly.  the trick is to upturn an old block and weld the sump when it's bolted to said block.  also planing your welding can help a lot.  the cast alloy sumps are quite easy to keep flat but they can be a chunt to weld, the pressed steel ones will try to warp more but the welding is obviously much easyer.

the other option is to raie the enigne a bit easy done with spacers  tho oviosly depending on what engine you have bepends how much clerance you can gain

above is a good option.. getting some blocks made up to raise your engine by say an inch or so.. seen a lot of people running silly low doing this and you can DIY for cheap enough

Raising the engine would have a negative impact on the handling though?

My subframe is lower than my sump, so why is yours hitting the ground?

Yup, and so would lowering it to the point where the sump is unavoidably hitting speedhumps.....
