Replacing clutch

If I were to replace the clutch friction plate and pressure plate, would I need to replace the DMF and the release bearing at the same time? Or would it be ideal to replace these at the same time. May of come across a 2nd hand, almost brand new uprated sachs clutch but only pressure plate and friction plate...

Also, could it be done on a driveway? Any special tools required? (150PD 6 speed BTW)

Change the release bearing as well as its only £40. Flywheel generally gets done because its a pig of a job/expensive to do it twice.

You need two people as the gearbox is f**king heavy and its got to come out and go back in at almost 45 degrees.
Cant remember off the top of my head what tools we used. only special tool was a clutch aligner.
Total time was 5 hours including a service and bleeding the clutch. would have be quicker if we didn't get the gear box jammed trying to get it out...

as mentioned you will need 2 people as awkward if you do it on the drive which is possible,
but you need to get the car really high off the floor to get 2 people under and the box on the 45 degrees
just usual tools and aligner

i have an unused sachs oem spec friction plate going spare  - you can buy an uprated cover from clutch specialists in Leeds for £75 !!
I got my kevlar drive plate from there for £60 delivered. (so you could have a kevlar uprated clutch for less than £150 delivered)


fitting is something i thought about doing but last one cost me £120 cash to be changed over.

I was looking this you see...But you say you have a 'Friction' plate. I am guessing that people call the different parts of the clutch by different names, as there is only a 'Pressure' plate in that ebay ad, is that the same as a 'Friction' plate? Then I'd just need the uprated 'Cover' (the thing with the spring fingers on it) and a new flywheel and release bearing if I were to purchase yours right?

clutch is made up of three parts - Flywheel, Drive plate (friction plate) and cover (pressure plate) which has the sprung fingers
It's best to change the slave too.

if you wanted my OEM sachs drive plate you could buy uprated cover from the people in Leeds
then a slave is about £40 too.

Flywheel is the risky bit....mines been done last september
