RCD510 USB Stick
« on: 18 January 2012, 22:38 »
Hi,
Could someone please confirm how the RCD510 shows songs which are stored on a USB stick? Does it show the file name or does it get the track details from the ID3 tags within the MP3? Can you navigate to different folders, for example could I create a folder "New Songs" and navigate to that?

Just sorting out my music now for when the car arrives lol. Anything I should be aware of when using USB?

Thanks,
Scott

You can create folders and it does use the tags. There are some limits like Max 1000 files per folder. If you want to mix all folders and all songs you need one in the root.

Yep, just to confirm it's tags. You can look through the file info manually (to show artist, album etc) but by default it's tags.

My RCD310 uses the ID3 tag of the MP3 when it displays the track info?

The handbook says you can make a play list with Windows media player and put that on the root of the USB stick. I've played them with and without the play list and its still the same, mine is always set on Mix All.

I don't know if WAV can be played.

From the manual: Audio data in MP3, WMA, OGG Vorbis and AAC format from the
external data sticker, connected to the multimedia socket, can be
played via the radio.

worked out how to sort this iTunes not playing on the rcd510 i think

you need to convert them to mp3 by making a duplicate. you need to change from AAC or m4a to mp3 in the iTunes settings. the rcd510 won't play iTunes files.

if the file is m4a it can be converted but if its m4p its locked. means most of the music i legally bought can't be transferred to a usb stick.

Google 'M4p to MP3 converters', there appears to be several out there that may work OK??
