Whats a reasonable price 4 a respray
« on: 08 January 2012, 13:35 »
Hi all, I have took my 16v off the road,
I just had sum blokes pop around from a body shop,
They quoted me 800 quid,
Thats 2 totally strip all car down, all trim off,
Refit a new door and a new wing i have in shed,
Lead line all rear corners wear they rusted through,
Redo my petrol panel where that all gone,
And sort all dents and scratches out
No guts No glory,

Sound too cheap.  Are they from a personal recommendation, or from the Yellow pages.

Ask Thom89 for a rough idea on price.

Ah.  Well if its Mates Rates and you regard his work of the highest quality, then go ahead.

Don't forget to post up some pics of his work.

Mine cost me 2K (£1.6K first for all body panels exc roof and bumpers & then £400.00 for the roof & bumpers last year)...

£800.00 sounds a mega deal subject to the quality of work...

I was gunna strip all the trim an stuff off myself,
But the bloke reckons he would rather do it so he knows how it goes off an back on again.
No guts No glory,

Be very careful how you tread with the price, and how long it will take! £800 leaves no incentive for your mate to finish the job,  especially if he's had it for a long time.. for that price you need to put in force something that gets you the car back within 10 days, or expect the whole deal to go tits up, and you lose a mate!
A Mk2 Ive just painted, the £800 at you talk of doesn't even come close to what has been spent on paint, materials. sundry items and a new OE wing, let alone labour etc, good bodywork is horrendously expensive!

a agree with thom here.

if i had an £800 respray job to do it would proaby sit outside the workshop for a very long time and i'm not even a pro painter.   also leading is a bit of a lost art now there are people who are good at it tho but doing it right dosent happen fast.

but here's how i'd brake down a bargain basement respray as i did the birds car and it's scary how the costs mount up.

Paint as in , primer seal, high build primer,  base coat, laquer,  thinners, pannel wipe,  and degreasants = £350  being tight.
then there is £50 in filler and sanding materials as a minumum.

leaves roughy £400 to do the job.  in other words 2 days worth of work, unless he's doing it on the side but those jobs tend to go wrong

all the VW's have gone bar 1.
