Not really mate its just would you prefer £10 per hour or £5 an hour?
Unless I know his work and see cars leave do you think I would spend anything?

I would say thats a must do...

Even if your parting with a lot of money... gotta see the work that he's doing... or you could just be throwing all your money away...

Never know you might be getting a deal of the century....

The guy who did my roof and both bumpers is/was trying to get on the car scene and was looking for people who would promote his work - so I got what I thought was a good deal... I'm very happy with the work as it's still looking good as is the rest of the car...

Will need a detail this year to keep it looking tip top...

If your mate is starting out and needs the business to promote his work then he will give you a good deal. If your car comes back mint, post pics on the forum and im sure other people would contact him for a respray. As mentioned seeing previous work is a must especially if your car requires welding etc. You want to see it's being done properly. If he is planning on doing a good job he won't mind if you ask him for images of the progress he is making.

My paint job cost £1800 all in. It was done by a very experienced painter and included a small amount of welding but generally you do get what you pay for. The painter gave me a step by step picture DVD of the work done on my car which is pretty cool so I could see all of the stages. Paint & clear coat costs and quality vary hugely as with everything. The paint job I got was discounted slightly, I knew it would be done well because my landlord had his Ferrari Dino resprayed at the same time by the same bloke, if it's good enough for his car it's good enough for my mk2!

There is a vw camper restoration works near where I used to live and the paint jobs on some of those vans can easily cost 7k+. Have a look on his website: www.thehotworks.com

I had some leading and welding done by him and his work is A+.

Hope it all works out and you are happy with the results!

A Mk2 Ive just painted, the £800 at you talk of doesn't even come close to what has been spent on paint, materials. sundry items and a new OE wing, let alone labour etc, good bodywork is horrendously expensive!

Thom

Do tell....

Hi all, I have took my 16v off the road,
I just had sum blokes pop around from a body shop,
They quoted me 800 quid,
Thats 2 totally strip all car down, all trim off,
Refit a new door and a new wing i have in shed,
Lead line all rear corners wear they rusted through,
Redo my petrol panel where that all gone,
And sort all dents and scratches out

Hi Yet to introduce but saw this Q and had to say i have just purchased a MK2 Golf which went through a full re spray and it was mint.  If you look on Club GTI for cossiemark you will see some of his work

Thx Matt
