I've just had to let my road tax run out as can't afford to pay for it, annoying thing is it's done on emissions and even though it's 10 year old it's emissions are lower than brand new cars that pay £35 per year or whatever it is. but I've got to pay over £200 per year. hows that work?

10yrs old means it falls into the old style tax bands, ie anything below 1.5litres and anything above 1.5litres. If it was slightly newer then it would fall into the full on tax bands based on emissions.

No it doesn't, it was registered after 01/03/2001 which means it's done on emission.
