Mk 2 Gti 8v Alternator needed asap.
« on: 28 December 2011, 17:09 »
Just got back after collecting the car, only to have the alternator screaming in distress because of the bearing sounding like it is about to break up.
Had a quick look around locally and found that replacements are around the £100 mark.
Just wondered if anyone on here had any useful contacts or websites that I could look at which might help.

Thanks folks.....

Cheers....

I did consider it, but the only place I could find was a place who quoted me £110 to refurb it.  Thats when I thought of asking you guys.  Im sure there must be someone who has been in a similar position.

Im 15 miles North East of Birmingham, right by Drayton Manor.
£35 sounds much better than £110....

I would have replaced it shortly anyway as I wanted to know that my better half could start it every time (It is her car).

According to a couple of sources - there are several types of alternator for these engines.... I would love to think that a 16v one would do the job - but dont know enough about the specifics of them.  Is it a given that it would do the job as well as the one specifically intended ?

No. Have a look at Euro Car Prats (section at the bottom of the forum) we may be able to help out.

If you don't mind a drive try here: http://birmingham.enquira.co.uk/automotive-vehicles/auto-electricians/recon-auto-electrics-l14276.html

£45 with a next day pick up and they paint the casing to make it look like new!
