Interior fan not blowing hot air
« on: 22 December 2011, 16:23 »
As above, maximum hot temperature and not blowing hot air inside the car. does anyone know any reasons why? the relay has been re-newed and the fan is still working on numbers 2,3, and 4 by the switch. also have to give the fan a thump to get it working sometimes.

any ideas?

Cheers!!

heat exchanger faulty or airlock in coolant
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Whats your water temp like? Also what car? Old ones suffer with dodgy bypass valves or blocked heater matrices.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

its a Mk 4 (1999) golf

she has had the tendency to over heat. but this is quite rare. is this a job for auto technicians?
i am a bit wary to send my car into garages, as they do work that doesnt need doing....or say theyve done the work when they havent. i try to do things myself. but this heater has confused the hell out of me.............

try bleeding it - there is a sticky somewhere - but essentially, start it from cold with the expansion cap off, let it warm up (will take ~15mins) and massage coolant hoses.  Once its hot and the t-stat is open, all hoses including radiator will be hot.  Switch off and put cap back on.  Oh and put dial in cabin to full hot to let water/air flow.

if its still cold then its the heat-exchanger.

(PS - assumes that you have coolant in it???)

Sounds like a thermostat mate. Worth a try only 6quid from s.c motor factors.

but some heat would come into the cabin - particularly when stationary.
