A lot of illegal HID users can say goodbye to them then
Projectors with HID's FTW

Projectors, self levelling, headlight washers with HID's FTW don't you mean?

I don't think there is anything in there which says you must have any of these features with HID's. It just says things like "may be fitted", "where such systems are fitted, they must work" and "check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted."

It's lolcats, numpty.

No - environmental safety.

I'm just saying, you've justified de-cats saying that they don't harm anyone, on here before.

I'm pretty sure it does mention it.

End of the day it's common sense.  If you run illegal HID's, you're a complete idiot.

a theoretical  solution to illegal HID's  just drive into the thingys with them,

they make there car technicaly unroad worthy, therefor accident fault defaults to them.  car of choice for this would naturaly be a golf 3  so any golf 3 with HID's would be a double win , 2 of them off the road with one crash
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.
Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.

This it the same for pretty much anything on an MOT - if it's fitted, it needs to work correctly.

Actually according the EU law (which overrides UK law) they don't.  All that is required is that the HIDs are in units E-marked to have them in, for that car (and adjusted correctly, obviously).

As such, no car that didn't have HIDs in as OEM can have them, legally.... unless an aftermarket supplier's gone through the massive rigmarole of E-marking their units, which they won't have.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

In that case If EU laws supersede UK laws do we need to have standard UK plates?

Is there any coverage for numberplates in EU law?

Having two sets of guidelines to follow means you are always do less than if you were following only one.
