I get the point you're making Andy, but I'm sure that there will still be people that will buy VW's long after you and many other people with similar opinions have taken their money to another dealership.

Whether we think their business strategy is right or wrong, I'm sure VW know a bit more about market forces than we do.

It only takes a few of us to say "bubbles" to spending £30k and their marketing people might think again. What's interesting is that the obvious step to make within the VW group at the £30k point is to go buy an Audi as that's their premium arm. However, in my case, I hate the look of Audis so they lose me as a customer despite me loving the GTi. Now I'm no marketing man but surely that will become a problem?

I'd love to see what VW thought of the thread - "What car are you getting next" If I were working for VW I would be concerned over the almost unanamous view of the existing MK GTI drivers saying they wont be getting the MK7 GTI!

They are getting too expensive but so is everything else aswell, im think i heard on the radio that Vw made record profits this last quarter so they won't be too concerned about a few of us moaning on here. Vw's have always been around 10-20% more than there rivals yet they have always sold.
For those who say if the mk7 gti starts at 27k they will look at Bmw's, Audi's why didn't you with the mk6 an mk5 and so on because you could have got a low spec bmw for the price of a new gti and the trend will continue imo.

Simple answer to that is that when I ordered my GTi in May 09 it was £23k or so. Look at the new price now.

As for my whole argument I rest my case at this below. Fantastic car, no doubt, but utterly dillusional.

Sorry, the link didn't work - it was supposed to show a specced up R in Nuneaton for £40k.

^^^^ yes and my point is when you paid 23k for your gti you could have brought a low spec Bmw for around that price just like you will when the mk7 gti comes out, also you can spec a bmw 3 series way above list with options.

Still bought the GTI though, mainly because I wanted a GTI.

I wanted a 3 door hot hatch, BMW and MERC do not do one.

If I wanted a lowly spec 3 Series or 1 then I would get one for a company car.......

Yes and my point all along is that I wasn't comparing the GTi to a new BMW - I was comparing it to a 2nd hand fast one. At £23k I chose to buy the new GTi. At £30k I would choose the 2nd hand 330 or whatever every time so they've lost a customer.

That is my point because more and more people will do the same.

You can always spend £28,000 on a none sport DS4 Citron !
Jokes aside dose anyone know where the £27,000 figure came for the next GTI ?
The new 3 series is £500.00 cheaper than the model it replaces so who is to say what price the GTI will be.

Just read an article on ‘CAR’ magazine on the Scirocco R. The last paragraph made for interesting reading. To have as much fun as this driving you would need to buy a Porcha boxter.

I put a link up a few pages back on a Merc E class which I showed to my misses. She said she much prefers the anonymous style of the GTI. Have to agree with her. I’m 99.8% certain an order will be made for the mark 7 GTI. You just know it’s going to be a cracking car that will not be priced too far in front of it’s competitors

Well people should stop moaning about the price of a gti and comparing them to Audis Bmw's, if you don't want to pay go elsewere simple.
Im not moaning ive just brought a Edition 35 and will more than likely get a mk7 gti
