Parking ticket is a legal document.  If it is not completed correctly, it is invalid.

Plus 1 , its invalid

Is the ticket from the council or from something like 'Civil Parking enforcement' (private company)?

Personally, for peace of mind I would call up the council to pay the ticket and mention the reg number and say it's not your car's plate. If they do have a photo, they will pull it up on the computer and MAY let you off because it's technically not your car! (This has happened to a couple of people in a thread linked earlier). It is nearly christmas so you never know, might let you off but if they don't you only have to pay the £30 rather than the £70 and you can right it off as a bad experience :)

I have one from last year for parking in a KFC car park for 10 mins (not exaggerating the times are on the ticket) they wanted £75 within 2 weeks or it would go to £150.

I ignored the second letter requesting £150 and then received a third letter saying if I don't pay they will hand over to bailiffs and 'could' receive an even larger fine.

A lett from 'Newlyn' bailiffs came through (which i later found out is owned, or part of the company that sent the original ticket) and they wanted £238.

I rang them up and asked about how I appeal and they said they would put it on hold for 300 days. This period expired sometime in august and I received a reminder that I owe them £238 and that if I didn't pay they said they 'may' register with the court which 'could' result it a larger fine.

Before they can even send the bailiffs out they need to get the case approved/accepted or whatever by the courts AFTER registering it. Even then I think they have to have a valid case to be able to register it (mighty elvi could confirm this).

So I ignored that letter because they were clearly trying to use a bunch of scare tactics. I was prepared to go to court.

They then sent out a big scary FINAL WARNING letter OOOOOO scary. Saying that if I did not pay up i could face further costs and legal action bla bla bla.

I have ignored that and I haven't heard anything for about 2 months. Ignore them unless its a council ticket. If you do want to contact them don't make any claims (i.e something you might have seen on a sign) without real evidence, don't be rude, threatening or sarcastic and only contact them if they contact you first.

Remember, its just a scam and an utter load of bullsh!t.

Also ask them to prove it was you.

^  Good for you.

Yes.  In order for the Bailiffs to come-a-callin' they have to WIN their case against you in court.  Then if you fail to pay any damages & costs awarded then they can apply for a court order to appoint a bailiff to recover goods to the value of said damages.

...and in the first instance no judge is going to find against you with those sorts of £££ demands.

Hence the plethora of threatening letters.

Ignore.

I had a parking ticket a few months ago when I parked in the town at half past 7 at night. 7.33pm to be exact. 3 minutes outside restricted parking and they still tried to charge me £60. Needless to say I won that appeal. Another time I was helping a mate move house when I parked to unload for 5 minutes. Came out to see an attendant writing out a ticket. Told him my situation and he just said it was too late and had a rather bad attiutude. Got in my car, started it up, rolled down the window and said to him, ''You've not taken an picture yet''. He began to fumble with his camera but I just drove off. Didn't pay it, got letter through post weeks later. Sent it back asking for proof and got a response shortly after saying they didn't have any and the ticket had been invalidated.
