Will a lit clock make it drive any better?  No.  It's not bone idle, it's a specific focus.

I hope you understand I'm only having  a

And no, by the sounds of your electrical power woes, adding another working bulb to the equation will only slow it down.

This thread has proven 1 thing anyhow....

Yes, Golf3s are so f*cking cheap anyone can buy one as a sh*tter.

Oh and the GTI is the wrong one to buy.

Oh and also while there's no point polishing a turd it can take you most places.

Today's modification: gaffer tape to the glovebox lid to keep the stupid thing closed.

Fitted my head unit last night, so sound radio reception and a USB stick full of stuff I want to listen to.

Bimbled up the A34 fine this morning.  I was slightly concerned about it getting stroppy, as I don't think it's been taken off the IOW for a long time.  Bloody rabble suffers from condensation in the mornings though.

How come?

How come?

The 8V should have been badged as a GL.

It has plastic sill covers that kill it.

£10 says a TDI would be faster point to point on A & B roads and it'll return +10-20MPG more at the same time.

The 16V should have been badged as a GTI and there should have been a blown 16V badged above that.

Instead they made the VR6.  Idiots.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

'All' my plastics gone, i bet you £20 the TDI would be quicker

The only other golfs i have drove is a mk2 1.6 8v, and a mk4 gti, and mine feels pretty good!

VR6 is good for motorway cruising i assume, and that was what it was developed for wasn't it? to compete with the BMWs.

Cant argue tho that a blown 16V would be bloody awesome!

I actually really miss the low down torque of my 8v. If I plant my foot in th raddo at 2k, it's like the feeling of a TDI, waiting...........and waiting............and wai - oh there it is!  When its high up the 16v really does pull though tbf, but with a 21 year old car, I try to be a little gentle with it sometimes. My driving style is more suited to the 8v I think, especially as most of my driving is done around town.

Complete misnomer - you'll probably find the torque curves are the same.  What you're waiting on is the extra power further up the rev range.

I kind of have the luxury with a small amount of both in my 8v. Low down Torque and some punch up around 6k.

On the private road that has a 30mph speed camera mid way up a hill, in the golf 3 in 3rd gear I could get to 40 by the top of the hill. I was a way off that today.

Gearing in the Corrado would probably be higher.

Plus, unless I'm mistaken you're comparing the 1.8 KR with the 2.0 tugboat engine.  There's no replacement for displacement and that comparison is disingenuous.
