Crop Circles on the Rear Window
« on: 05 December 2011, 15:48 »
Hi Guys,

Was driving off to the girlfriends parents yesterday evening and noticed three circles on the rear window.  The window was somewhat misted from the cold car and our warm breathing on the inside.  *Waits for additional naughty comments about that*

Basically it's two large circles, about 20-25cm in diameter with one smaller circle in between.

Anyone seen this? I'm not too worried as I believe it to be the suction cups used to mount the glass in the factory.

Anyone able to re-assure / propose an alternative.

I've had exactly the same thing on the front passenger window in my Passat, ever since it was replaced by Auto Glass. Oddly, we also get the same sort of thing on our conservatory windows. They get a criss cross effect, the same pattern as the stuff they pack between the glass units to transport them.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Either factory suction cups, or the suction pads used to hang price stickers in a showroom.

I have the exact same circles on the rear window. I'm sure its very symmetrical in relation to where they are.
No amount of cleaning with and without chemicals has shifted them.

They are caused by the build process, suckers are used to move the glass in the manufacturing line and they leave a mark.

Cheers Jim, I thought that's what caused them.

Just amazed they have never come off in over 2 years of ownership.

I don't have them on my rear window, but have 2 obvious ones appear on the front when it steams up. It just looks like you haven't bothered cleaning it properly!

I've got these ones. I thought my cleaning regime must be wimpy; but now seems not.

+ 1, unable to get rid of these fully - looks ok most of the time but when the car steams up or the sun shines right on the front window it looks as if I've never cleaned the glass
