Heavy clutch, is this normal?

Hi guys. Just got myself my 1st mark 2 golf. Its a 16V GTI 1991. I part exed my mark 3 golf gti 8V against it. Anyway, i know the clutches are heavier than the mk3 but how much is normal? It works fine but just seems suprisingly heavy. I presume it must be a cable operated clucth and npt hydrolic so i have no idea how heavy it should be.

yeah its a cable operated clutch....dunno about heavyness though as my last two golfs the clutch was ok

Its hard to give a comparison but it works fine and has good biting point, just seems heavy (or maybe my left leg is getting weaker)    Is there anything i can grease or soething that may make it smoother? Not looked into my orafice yet

I can only say that since i had a clutch fitted in mine recently its soooo much lighter and obviously so from b4. might be in need of doin or on its way out try the linkage at the end of the cable first spray loads of lube on there that may be seizing up. The lad who did my clutch did that @ the time he fitted it. just a thought

Heavy clutch pedal = worn clutch pressure plate

Maybe this heavy cluctch is why the car was sold by the last owner. They had it for 14 years. Will have to look into the linkage and such and see. Might just pop it into my local German car specialist. If anyone is near Lakeside its called "Motorvation" Fantastic service given everytime. Took my mk3 golf in as the idle was dropping dangerously low after high revs. They ran the diagnostic computer, found nothing and said no need to pay as nothing is wrong. (I was expecting the £45 diagnostic bill, RESULT) The chap there said it would be the throttle body clogged (1998 model with 108K on the clock) charged for 45 minutes labour (£30) and said forget the VAT. Car worked to perfection until i sold it. A cheap fix at a garage with honest service, that RARE. They got my custom 4 life.

16vs have always had heavy clutches. I know i got caught in a 5 hour jam leaving London once, creeping forward for hours upon hours and almost couldnt walk at the end of the ordeal.

mine's just heavy cos the box has been converted from hydro to cable

mk2 16v's do not have heavy clutches, that is total bollox.
Pete's mk2 16v, which we changed the gearbox/clutch and cable is VERY light. This is how it is supposed to be.
The hydraulic clutch on the mk3 vr6 is much heavier, obviously because it is has a 228mm clutch, and has a much stronger pressure plate.
