Thanks Darren.
I have tried unpluging and plugging it all back in just now incase this was the issue.
I recoded everything. Tried a reset(guess it did not work)
It then came up with the same 2 issues when i scanned, As the other faults cleared the last time i thought maybe it had reset, I guess not.

I Will try it again in the morning.

Thanks for the help.
Geoff.

Geoff if its anything to do with the RNS510 send it straight back buddy, Ill change it asap. seems to be the MDI thats not communicating.

Is the MDI actually working? is the RNS fully working?? do you have the nav and audio info in the highline display?

Yes MDI is working as its been playing a memory stick most the day while ive been trying to sort it.
Once it did not see it at first but turning the satnav off then on and it was fine.

Took awhile to find a satalite after first install for some reason, it said my current location was a house number and street in dagenham i guess that was were it was powered up last.
Nav info was in the display when i set a destination but has been since i first tried to program it.

I scanned the car before i started to install the RNS-510 and it was all OK,
I regular scan the car every 3 months or so and have not seen an MDI issue previously.

I am wondering if the CAN gateway is saving properly? As i have read it sometimes does not unless you change the workshop code?
(I have the latest version of VCDS so maybe thats not an issue?)
Or/and
If i need to update the MDI software as it will be Feb 2010 spec were the satnav is June 2011

yeah, first track of satellite seems to take a while but works pretty quick thereafter.

I'm having a memory of a fault I had when retrofitting mine.

Check whether you have "CD-Changer/iPod/USB Connection Monitoring active" enabled. You might try disabling that and then re-booting the RNS. It is not needed for the MDI to work, and it got rid of my error.

Removed the RNS-510 this morning.
Re-Installed the RCD-310
Set the coding back to the RCD-310
Cleared all fault codes.
Ran a VCDS auto scan
All results OK

Refitted the RNS-510
Coded exactly the same as i did previously.
Tried to reboot the RNS-510 but failed. Operator error i suspect  :embarassed: (does not seem to do it, do i have to be in some special menu? )
Ran VCDS auto scan
All results OK.

RNS-510 during the scan turned itself on quietly then at the end of the scan did not turn itself off i had to do it, odd.

I now pray it stays all OK from now on.

Thanks Darren,
To reboot the RNS-510 do i have to have it in any special menu or have some option turned on to allow it to do it?

I had it on the radio and held down the < and > buttons then pressed the * and held them all down for over 2 minutes by my watch nothing happened.
Tried it in MDI still did not do it.
Tried it after pressing the setup menu button nothing happened
Tried it as it booted up said unavilable at this time or somthing like that.

I have read this morning some say its the eject button not the * button. Tried that still nothing.

The Mk6 is more or less going to be off the raod till mid March (as i have a winter car for the snow/ice/grit) so i doubt it will throw up any faults till its back on the road properly at the end of March if it does give any faults, fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
Geoff.

Ive been having problems lately with rebooting the late C and F version, I sort of hold down < > then a quick press of the star button or keep pressing the 3 buttons together it will reboot eventually but seems to be hit and miss, like VW have made it so it harder to reboot
