XP Pro to Home Edition
« on: 01 December 2011, 11:47 »
Have old PC i havent used for ages and have now found some use for it. It was originally shipped with Windows XP Home Edition. As I used this at uni I needed XP Pro, so I did what I my other student buddies did and instaled it from a *cough* friends disk *cough*.

Now that I have switched it on after many moons it states that the copy of XP Pro is not genuine. The base unit has a sticker on with the key for the original HE it shipped with. Is it possible to go from Pro back to HE as I dont want to be running a dodge copy.

Go to registry and delete GWA or and use the doggy search to find the files then remove all is good afterwards apparently! They are smart it will be a K no. file

Disclaimer: any mucking about with regedit will or can lose functionality don’t PM about it  :lipsrsealed:

sheesh, google 'remove windows genuine advantage'

then don't install or run anything which will first test to see if you are running gen windows.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

Or find a genuine XP Pro serial key (one that matches the version you installed off the CD) and then use a Windows XP Pro keychanger to change your windows key.
Then it will think it's a genuine copy of XP Pro and will let you do anything.

probably easier to download xp home edition and use the original product key. its very easy to get hold on, stick it on a disc and away you go. find one with service pack 2 or 3 to save the million updates youll get,

im sure i used to have xp on floppys
